Cloud cost reduction for Petal Post
Cut the monthly AWS bill by more than a third without touching application code. A case study by Lukas Schmidt, Platform Engineer (Terraform & GCP).
Challenge
The AWS bill of Petal Post, a flower delivery service, had doubled in a year while traffic grew 20%. Nobody knew which team owned which resources.
Solution
I tagged resources by team, rightsized databases and instances, moved batch jobs to spot, added lifecycle policies to S3, bought savings plans for the stable baseline and set up budget alerts.
